3rd Offering of the Chamber Operations Course
The 3rd CACCI Chamber Operations Course was successfully conducted on August 10-16, 2009 in Taipei, drawing the participation of 20 chamber executives from 15 CACCI member countries. The eight-day program provided the attendees with the opportunity to learn from the best practices in chamber management. The delegates included officers or section heads of national or local chambers who are actively engaged in managing the day-to-day operations of their respective organizations and play a critical role in promoting SME businesses in their respective countries.
The Chamber Operations Course is part of CACCI’s continuing Professional Development Program for members. The Course is designed to help member chambers to effectively play their role in promoting the interest of the business sector, contributing to the development of the local economy, and advancing small and medium enterprises. This year’s program had four major components: class lectures, company and association visits, country presentations, and city tours.
Road-show Workshop “E-Commerce: Innovative Way of Doing Business in the Global Market”
CACCI partnered with the Taipei-based Secretariat of the APEC Digital Opportunity Center (ADOC) on conducting the road-show day workshop on “E-Commerce: Innovative Way of Doing Business in the Global Market” .
The workshop was held in Manila on October 22-24 and hosted by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI); and in Jakarta on October 26-28 hosted by the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN).
The joint CACCI-ADOC Secretariat (III) workshop was designed to promote e-commerce to enhance e-business activities particularly in exploring opportunities in global market. Among the topics to be covered include Introduction to e-Commerce Strategy and Infrastructure; e-Business Business Project Management; e-Business Trends and Applications; and Web Design and Development in e-Commerce. There will also be a sharing of success stories of companies in their usage of e-commerce to reach out into the global markets.
Road-show Workshop on “UCP 600”
CACCI worked with the ICC Banking Commission in organizing the road-show workshop on UCP 600. The one-day workshop was held on October 28 in Colombo, Sri Lanka, with the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and host, and on October 30 in Singapore, with the Singapore Business Federation as host.
The UCP 600, or the Revised Rules on Documentary Credits (Letters of Credit) of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), more commonly known as Uniform Customs and Practice for Documentary Credits (UCP), are used for letter of credit transactions worldwide and are extremely important for the business community, especially the trading and banking sectors.
Road-show Workshop on “Financing of Small & Medium Enterprises: Increasing SMEs’ Access to Finance in the Context of the Global Financial Crisis” –
CACCI collaborated with the Geneva-based International Trade Centre (ITC) in conducting one-day workshops on “Financing of Small & Medium Enterprises: Increasing SMEs’ Access to Finance in the Context of the Global Financial Crisis”
The workshops were held on October 23 Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, with the Mongolian National Chamber of Commerce and Industry as host, and on November 29 in Tehran, Iran, with the Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, and Mines (ICCIM) as local host.
The joint CACCI-ITC program was designed to address some of the challenges imposed by the global financial crisis and how to mitigate its impact on SMEs and the economy. Specifically, the workshop aims to provide an answer to the scarcity of credit availability, credit rating mechanisms, and risk assessment and management of SME lending.
Workshop on “Promoting SME and Regional Development”
CACCI worked with the Small and Medium Enterprise Administration (SMEA), Ministry of Economic Affairs of the ROC, in delivering the workshop on “Promoting SME and Regional Development”. The workshop was held on October 24 in Erdenet City, Mongolia with the Mongolian National Chamber of Commerce and Industry as host. A second workshop was held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia on December 16, with the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce as host.
Workshops on ATA Carnet Implementation
The first and second Joint CACCI-ICC Workshops on International Trade Facilitation were held in collaboration with the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) in Manila on 26-27 Aug 2009, and with the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Hanoi on October 12-13. These Joint Workshops are part of CACCI’s on-going collaboration with the ICC in helping the expanding business community in Asia to successfully develop their export markets.
The primary objective of the workshop was to discuss the trade facilitation benefits of joining the ATA Carnet System. The target audience included Senior Customs officials, Senior Government Officials including officials from the Department of Trade and Industry and Trade Promotion Agencies; Chamber staff and members, representatives from the financial sector (banking and insurance), and representatives from the freight forwarders, fair and exhibition organizers, among others.
Joint CACCI-Eurochambres Workshop on “Recent Development in Chamber Land : A European Perspective”
CACCI partnered with the European Association of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Eurochambres) in organizing one-day workshops on Recent Trends in “Chamber Land”: A European Perspective.
The workshops were conducted on a road-show format and covered two cities: Colombo, Sri Lanka on March 18 and Manila, Philippines on March 20. Some 45 delegates attended the Colombo workshop, and about the same number joined the Manila workshop. The participants in both venues represented the provincial, city, regional and national level chambers in the respective host countries
